With Biscuit, 2015 and Figurehead, 2015 Da Cunha explored the use of precast concrete sewer pipes, (this exploration started with the Public Sculpture series (p.8) in 2008) from the different sizes and shapes that are available to the construction trade. Figurehead is made of three identical cylindrical sewer pipes, placed on top of each other in different orientations forming a concrete tower thirty-five feet high. Figurehead was inspired by totemic imagery and ship figureheads as well as modernist architecture. Because of its monumental scale and inviting elegant curved shapes, the sculpture establishes a possible social space as well as a compact place for rest and exploration. Da Cunha describes Compass, 2012 as the invisible sculpture: when joined together the prefabricated objects create a pedestal, inviting the viewer to climb up and become part of both artwork and the landscape. The title points to the relationship between the garden and the sculpture, the work it self is placed to reflect the four cardinal points.
