McQueen s videos are often seen projected large, within a darkened room, with highly polished floors and are silent compositions, or when accompanied by sound, it is usually a score. The films flicker as they project.

Prey shows a tape recorder dangling from a balloon, floating up in to the sky, with the sound of tap dancing. The tap dancing sound is a real live recording, produced at same time as the film recording, not separately produced and inserted. This typifies McQueen s interest in simple and economic means of film making, typical of 1960 s Structuralist films.

Prey is a small projection, against a whitewash wall, with a rug on the floor below, as if to contrast against the tap dancing inclination the viewer might want to get involved in on hearing the tap dancing sounds of the shot. The element of being grounded is also a feature of the rug, as the balloon float in the to sky. Both are playful, spacial awareness means of communication that adds to the direct involvement of the viewer s experience.
