The title of this work, 7th Nov., refers to the day that McQueen’s cousin Marcus accidentally shot and killed his brother. On the soundtrack, a monologue by Marcus recounts in brutal detail the events of this tragic day. The soundtrack is accompanied by a single backlit photographic slide of a close-up shot of Marcus’s head while he is lying on his back. The contrast between the still image and the momentum of the narrative emphasises the intimate exchange that takes place when a tale is retold and shared. (AL July 2021)
