Abraham Cruzvillegas’ on-going series of artworks Blind Self-portrait, including Erikaviolett, 2015, are personal documentations created by collecting the paper detritus of modern life; receipts, flyers, business cards, menus, bus tickets etc. all specific to a time, a place and an individual. However, the information has been eradiated by the act of uniformly painting each element leaving the viewer to only imagine the story they tell, whilst simultaneously creating a larger abstract form. Each work in the series is unique to a place, comprising of different formations and colours.
Erikaviolett (referring the particular colour used) consists of items collected during Cruzvillegas’ preparation for his Tate Modern Turbine Hall installation in 2015.
